Gramma!

Jammy and Macho went to the RDU Airport tonight to pick up their Gramma!  The last time they saw her was seven months ago.  She lives very, very far away and it is so exciting to see her again.

When he saw her, Macho immediately ran to her, but at the last second he chickened out and did a "drive-by," missing her by inches and turning to check her out from a few feet away.  It didn't take him too long to regain himself and come in for a hug. :)

Jammy and Macho were both fascinated by the display of items from Cedar Creek Gallery in a glass case by the baggage claim.

Holding Park Pool

It was "stinkin' hot" outside today, so Jammy (6) and Macho (3-1/2) wanted to go swimming.
There is a great, little, public pool in Holding Park near downtown Wake Forest. From the road, the kids had to go down the big, steep stairs to the bottom floor of the building to enter the pool.
No checks or cards are accepted, so Jammy and Macho brought CASH ONLY!!!
$3 per kid
$4 per adult
No coolers are allowed.
There is a concession stand, but they sell NO WATER.

Jammy and Macho felt pretty safe in the pool because it was not too crowded, and there were three lifeguards on duty.

There is a slide and a diving board in the deep end of the pool. Jammy tried the slide, but decided that it wasn't his favorite thing.  He can swim, but the deep, deep water still makes him a little bit nervous. Jammy and some other middle-sized kids had a lot of fun in the shallow water, diving after these:

 Wild Planet Dive Balls

Macho was happiest to spend his time either jumping to Mom from the edge of the pool or checking out the pretty lifeguard.

Digger Truck!

Right next to the new town hall in Wake Forest, there is a bunch of diggers and loaders and bulldozers, and Macho was lucky enough to watch one moving dirt up onto a big hill.  If it hadn't been 1000 degrees outside, Mom would have let him stay and watch longer.

Time to Register

This morning Macho registered for preschool, but more importantly, since no one was around, he got to sit on the school's golf cart!

Then he went to the new Wake Forest Town Hall to sign up for swimming lessons at Holding Park Pool.  That new town hall building is great!

They have a meeting room just inside the door with shiny seats which Macho could not resist. The elevator is awesome, and they have a guest desk with a phone and a swiveling chair just perfect for small boys.

Although the internet showed Session 3 and Session 4 with swimming lessons available, only Session 4 still had openings.  Too bad Mom didn't think about swimming lessons earlier.  Sign-ups start in June, and for residents of Wake Forest the price is only $35 for a 2-week session of daily lessons (M-Th).

Jammy's Got the Blues

Jammy is NOT happy to be back in school.

Macho Says . . .

This morning after several attempts to catch a moth that was fluttering around the bathroom, "I know! I have an idea!" (with his idea finger pointing to the sky) "Let's have a bug fight!"

A bug fight?

Mom followed him as he ran and grabbed a flyswatter. Oh, a bug fight!

Fungus!

Jammy and Macho run past this stump everyday, but it's kind of a slow day in the backyard, so today it was more interesting than usual.

Train Ride

Jammy and Macho never traveled on a train before.  They have ridden trains at parks and zoos and museums, but never a real train that would take them to another city.
There is a train station for the village where they are staying, so this is a perfect chance to try it out.
First, they had to wait.

. . . and wait.  The train won't wait for you, so you have to come early and wait for the train.

Finally, the train arrived at the station!  ALL ABOARD!!

A train in Slovakia is a lot like a bus, but better.  There is more room, and the boys got to see the countryside from a whole new perspective.
